This is over a programming error that affects vehicle stability control.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is recalling certain units of the 2022 RAV4 HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) and the Lexus NX HEV over an issue with the brake actuator software, which could affect the stability control function on both models.

2022 Toyota RAV4 HEV

TMP introduced the 2022 Toyota RAV4 HEV to our market in February 2022

In a letter addressed to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the automaker said it has initiated a special service campaign (SSC) for the two vehicles. This covers a total of 132 examples sold by authorized Toyota dealerships, divided into 92 units of the RAV4 HEV manufactured from November 17, 2021, to March 31, 2022, and 40 units of the Lexus NX produced from December 1, 2021, to April 1, 2022.

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 HEV premiered in the Philippines in February this year, followed by the 2022 Lexus NX HEV in March. For overseas releases of the two models, affected units were manufactured from October 8, 2019, to April 7, 2022.

The recall was prompted by an incorrectly programmed Skid Control ECU software. If the vehicle stability control is manually disabled by the driver prior to switching off the engine, the feature is supposed to turn back on during the next ignition cycle.

2022 Lexus NX HEV

The 2022 Lexus NX HEV is also the subject of a recall in the U.S. over disengaging front shock absorbers

In the affected units, the stability control may not return to its default setting once the engine is started again, and a warning light will come on in the instrument panel to prompt drivers to re-engage the feature. If the owner does not notice this warning light, the vehicle will continue to run without its stability control activated. This increases the risk of a crash in certain maneuvers caused by unchecked understeer, oversteer, and rollover.

TMP is advising customers to check its official website to verify whether their units are covered by the recall. If so, they only need to bring their units to any authorized Toyota or Lexus dealership, where the Brake Actuator ECU will be reprogrammed free of charge.
