The second-generation Toyota Innova isn’t going anywhere as it recently received a facelift treatment for 2023.
2023 Toyota Innova Crysta
This was revealed in the Indian market where the MPV is called Toyota Innova Crysta. It will be sold alongside the third-gen Innova Hycross, which now uses a new unibody platform and a hybrid powertrain. As such, Indian car buyers can now get to choose either the more environmentally-friendly hybrid Innova or the facelifted diesel-powered one.
For those who are planning to opt for the 2023 Innova Crysta, the MPV comes with subtle exterior changes including a new front bumper, a revised front grille, and new alloy wheel options. The grille design should look familiar to those who have seen the Toyota Hilux.
Speaking of the Hilux, the Innova Crysta is powered by the same power unit as the pickup, which is a smaller 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV turbodiesel engine. This means that the 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV turbodiesel has been discontinued. While the power figures are yet to be disclosed, the engine is said to be connected exclusively to a manual transmission.

As of this writing, it is still unclear whether Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) will have a similar two-Innova lineup strategy. What we know for now is that the next-gen Toyota Innova will arrive in the country sometime this year and will be sourced from Indonesia.
If the hybridized Toyota Innova will make its way into the Philippine lineup, it should come with a 2.0-liter M20A-FXS gasoline engine paired with a 111-horsepower electric motor. As part of the new platform, the MPV now utilizes a front-wheel-drive (FWD) system instead of the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) of the second-gen model.
For now, we would have to wait and see how TMP will go about its MPV roster. Then again, changes are inevitable since the facelifted Innova Crysta is now available in other markets. We do reckon, however, that things will get more interesting in the near future for the local market as the company has likewise pledged Php 4.4 billion to bring back the Tamaraw MPV.
