It might’ve taken a while but a major overhaul for the Toyota Wigo has finally happened. Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has launched the all-new Wigo as a hatchback looking more aggressive than ever.

But aside from looks, the Japanese automaker also integrated the Daihatsu New Global Architecture A (DNGA-A) platform into the next-gen Wigo. It is the same platform that underpins rebadged Toyota models such as the Avanza and Raize. Read on to see what the reworked hatch offers in the local market.
Exterior
With the use of the DNGA-A platform, the all-new Toyota Wigo got larger in terms of length and width. Specifically, the hatchback is now 100 mm longer and 65 mm longer than the outgoing model. However, the wheel size remains the same at 14 inches, while the design is now standard across the range.
The hatch just got bigger
Style-wise, the Wigo is reminiscent of the old one but arrives with a more aggressive appeal. It comes with new and redesigned split-type LED headlights, LED fog lamps, and halogen tail lamps as standard. But only the top-spec G gets an LED high-mount stop lamp, power-adjustable side mirrors, and a rear spoiler.
Interior
Inside, the new Wigo has a redesigned cabin similar to the one in its subcompact crossover sibling, the Raize. Coming with a more modern appeal, the interior has fabric seats, fold-down rear seats, an analog instrument cluster, an economy meter, three cup holders, and four bottle holders.

Opt for the top-of-the-line variant and get smart entry, a push start button, digital manual climate control, and a six-way manual adjustable seat.
Tech & Safety
As opposed to the outgoing model, the next-gen iteration is equipped with a floating-type touchscreen spanning eight inches, which looks similar to the one fitted on the Raize. This system supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a voice command function. But the base J variant only has a 1DIN head unit. Four speakers are fitted into the Wigo G, while the rest of the range has two only.
It is underpinned by the DNGA
Standard safety bits include driver and front passenger airbags, ISOFIX tethers, anti-lock brake system (ABS), vehicle stability control (VSC), and hill assist control (HAC). Meanwhile, the G package adds an alarm function to the immobilizer, a rearview camera, and a digital video recorder (DVR).
Engine
No changes were made under the hood as the latest version still uses the 1.0-liter 1KR-VE three-cylinder gasoline engine. It is capable of generating 66 horsepower and 89 Nm of torque.
The engine is carried over to the next-gen version
What’s new is the availability of a continuously variable transmission (CVT) for the mid-spec E and G variants. This type of transmission is deemed to be more fuel efficient as compared to geared counterparts. As for the base model, the five-speed manual gearbox is still the go-to.
Price
TMP is offering the all-new Toyota Wigo in the following price tags:
- Wigo J MT – Php 609,000
- Wigo E CVT – Php 684,000
- Wigo G CVT – Php 729,000
The Wigo re-enters the battle more prepared
