History

Cecil Kimber established Morris Garages (MG) in the 1920s. The British company is popular for their gorgeous sports cars with two seats, coupes and saloons oftentimes designed with Cowley chassis. Kimber added intricate details such as an MG Super Sports plate at the front of the vehicle making it more attractive. 

Development

In 1933, the MG K3 Magnette, one of their most significant releases fitted with a short chassis, and an impressive engine won at the prestigious race “Mille Miglia”. The competition was known to be gruesome. The K3 was so well made and remained intact while others did not get through. The car was driven by Captain George Eyston and Count Lurani. The same model competed again in 1934. It participated in “24 Hours of Le Mans”, a prestigious motor vehicle race where a car’s endurance is tested. Charlie Martin and Roy Eccles drove the K3 and finished as 4th overall. 

In 1945, MG penetrated the US market with the MG TC, a sports car oozing with elegance backed with trendy features. Fans loved it as it is an efficient two-seater that can run at a maximum speed of 75 miles per hour. 

Through the years, the company changed ownership. British Motor Corporation Limited (BMC) acquired it in 1952. British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC) took over in 1975, then British Aerospace managed it in 1988. Currently, Nanjing Automobile heads the company, naming it MG Motor.
