When Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) launched the City Hatchback in the country, there were a handful of uncertainties over how the model will perform locally. One of which includes the discontinuation of the Honda Jazz to make room for the hatchback version of the City.
Honda City Hatchback
Well now, the Honda City Hatchback has proven its worth in the market as it boasts a 75 percent market in the local hatchback segment, with 189 units sold. Despite competing with one variant only, the said numbers suggest that it is enough to cater to those Filipino car buyers in the market looking for a hatchback.
“We are truly delighted to see the all-new City Hatchback soar in the hatchback segment since its introduction in the country. Furthermore, we would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to our customers for their continuous support to Honda throughout the years,” said HCPI President Masahiko Nakamura.
Sports-themed interior
HCPI shared that one of the many reasons why its new sporty-looking hatchback entry sells is its versatility. Inside, the vehicle is equipped with Ultra Seats (ULTR), a feature that flexibly adjusts the seats to provide either more passenger room or cargo space. Other interior features include the one push with smart entry, remote engine start, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Customers point out the impressive performance capabilities of the Honda City Hatchback. It is powered by a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine capable of generating 119 hp and 145 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) as standard.
Fuel efficient powertrain
What’s more impressive about the powertrain is its excellent fuel efficiency rating. Last June 2021, the City Hatchback went on a test run with the City sedan under the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP). The hatchback gets a fuel efficiency rating of 25 km/l, while its sedan counterpart posted a 25.17 km/l rating.
As for safety, the Japanese hatchback gets loaded with features including six airbags, Speed Sensing Auto Door Locks, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Agile Handling Assist (AHA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Hill Start Assist, and Multi-view Rear Camera with guidelines.
Offered with RS variant only
The Honda City Hatchback is offered with a Honda City price Philippines tag of Php 1,115,000 for its sole RS CVT variant. Available body color options include Ignite Red Metallic, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, and Brilliant Sporty Blue Metallic. Meanwhile, an additional Php 20,000 is included for the Platinum White Pearl option.
“The positive acceptance of the Filipino market on the model means a lot for us and we would like to reaffirm our promise to continuously serve the country with quality products and excellent customer service,” concluded Nakamura.
