Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) ended the first half of 2021 as the second best-selling car brand in the market with 19,858 vehicles sold. The said sales feat were driven by the L300, and the Xpander, which continue to be the top two Mitsubishi models in the local market as of this writing.
Mitsubishi L300
When you look at the Year-To-Date (January to September 2021) sales of MMPC, the L300 is currently the best-selling Mitsubishi in the Philippines with 8,033 units sold. The demand for the L300 commercial vehicle could be attributed to the sudden rise of the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) due to the pandemic.
Mitsubishi Xpander seven-seater MPV
Coming in as the second best-selling Mitsubishi in the Philippines so far is the Mitsubishi Xpander 2022 MPV. According to the car brand’s YTD sales report, the Xpander posted 7,692 units sold from January to September 2021.
The said vehicle offers seating for up to seven individuals, and it is powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that generates 103 hp and 141 Nm torque. Depending on the variant, the engine can be paired to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.
Mitsubishi Philippines January to September 2021 sales
You can see that the L300 and the Xpander are competing for the title as the best-selling Mitsubishi vehicle this year. Currently, the L300 leads the race by 341 units.
The third spot is clinched by the Mirage G4 with 4,567 units sold from January to September 2021. Of note, the new Mirage G4 was recently launched in the Philippines last August featuring a revamped front end.
It is still powered by the same 1.2-liter gasoline engine that delivers 76 hp and 100 Nm of torque. The engine is connected to either a five-speed manual or continuously variable transmission (CVT). The facelifted Mirage G4 comes with a starting price of Php 769,000.
Mitsubishi Philippines September 2021 sales
On the other hand, the L300 and the Xpander remain to be the top two vehicles when you look at MMPC’s September 2021 sales. Based on the numbers, the L300 yielded 1,038 units sold while the Xpander posted 630 units. The Strada pickup truck completes the top three best-selling Mitsubishi in September with 455 units.
The Mirage G4 is not far behind the top three Mitsubishi vehicles as it had 428 units sold last September. This means that Mitsubishi’s subcompact sedan is just 27 units behind the Strada pickup truck in terms of sales last month.
With three more months to go this year, could the L300 sustain its sales momentum? Or will the Xpander catch up in terms of unit sales?
