Following the introduction of the all-new MG HS, the British-bred automaker has launched an updated version of the MG 5 with the new Core Plus variant at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).
MG 5 Core Plus
The new MG 5 Core Plus is based on the model’s mid-spec CVT Core, which is said to be a popular variant for the PH-spec model. This means that most of its features are taken from the latter with a few additions. All of which can be found in the cabin.
Starting with the larger 10-inch infotainment touchscreen that replaces the CVT Core’s 8-inch head unit. It is equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto so passengers can stay connected on the road. Moreover, the infotainment system still gets Bluetooth connectivity and AM/FM receiver.
It comes with improved tech features
The new and larger touchscreen also displays the view for the additional reverse camera for the Core Plus. With this, drivers can park in a spot with ease. For those who are looking for a 360-degree view camera, car buyers can consider getting the top-spec MG 5 CVT Alpha.
To top the additional onboard tech in the MG 5 Core Plus, the 4-speaker system of the CVT Core gets two more loudspeakers for a better listening experience. Other features included in the MG 5 Core Plus are driver and passenger airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, cruise control, and tire pressure monitoring.
The mid-spec got all the good stuff
The new variant uses a 1.5-liter gasoline engine good for 112 horsepower and 150 Nm of torque. It is paired to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) which is generally more fuel-efficient than a geared transmission.
MG Philippines is offering the 5 Core Plus with a price tag of Php 748,888, which is Php 30,000 more than the CVT Core variant. As of this writing, the new variant can be availed of with a low down payment promo of Php 63,000 or a cash discount of Php 65,000.
