Mitsubishi Motors Philippines launched a precautionary service campaign involving select models, which include the Strada, Lancer Evolution X, Lancer, Fuzion, L200, and Pajero. The Japanese automaker is offering a free airbag replacement for the said vehicles as a “precautionary measure.”

The car brand is urging owners of the said vehicles to visit the nearest authorized Mitsubishi dealership to have their cars sorted out. Mitsubishi PH did not provide further details as to the complete requirements needed to avail of the free airbag replacement. However, it did mention on its official Facebook page that affected owners should contact an authorized Mitsubishi dealership for more details.
Aside from the free airbag replacement, owners of the affected Mitsubishi models are also entitled to have their vehicles subjected to a free 15-point safety check, which will be conducted by the car brand’s certified technicians.
Take note though that the free airbag replacement for the select Mitsubishi vehicles will only be until December 31, 2023.
Mitsubishi PH's free airbag replacement service campaign
Mitsubishi PH’s precautionary service campaign could most likely be related to the Takata airbag issue that first broke out in 2014. The faulty Takata airbag is a global issue with more than 30 automakers affected by it, including brands such as Honda, Ford, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, BMW, and Volkswagen, among others.
In fact, last 2021, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. launched a safety recall campaign that involved 8,365 units of 1997 to 1999 CR-V, Accord, and Legend due to the faulty Takata airbag inflators.
