Following the ASEAN debut of the Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport (GR-S) in Thailand, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has added the said model to the local lineup. Although it was made available discreetly since last week, local Toyota dealers are already accepting orders.
Toyota Corolla Cross GR-S
The Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport now joins other GR-S models available locally including the Hilux, Fortuner, and Vios. All of the said Toyota models come with aesthetic improvements that aim to provide a sportier appeal as part of the Gazoo Racing (GR) branding. Of note, the Corolla Cross GR-S also received a few non-cosmetic tweaks that improve performance.
An alternate set of shock absorbers and springs are exclusive to the GR-S version of the compact crossover, improving the overall handling and drive. It has also been added with a power tailgate with a kick sensor. This enhances the daily driver characteristics of the model alongside its fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain.
Under the hood, the Corolla Cross GR Sport still uses the 1.8-liter 2ZR-FXE inline-4 gasoline engine with an electric motor. Together, the powertrain is capable of generating 120 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque. The engine is connected to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), sending power to the front wheels.
It is the latest addition to the local GR-S lineup
The new sportier version of the Toyota Corolla Cross comes with the same features as the outgoing top-spec Hybrid V including the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS). This driver assistance system has Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Pre-Collision System (PCS), Automatic High Beam (AHB), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), and Lane Departure Alert (LDA).
TMP offers the new top-of-the-line Corolla Cross GR-S at Php 1,774,000, which is Php 94,000 more than the Hybrid V variant. It is available solely with a Platinum White Pearl Mica paint with a black roof. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact their preferred Toyota dealership as it is still not available on the company’s official website as of this writing.
